WELCOME TO ST. MARY'S PRE-SCHOOL

We are a community pre-school of charitable status managed by a committee of parents. We aim to provide a safe, welcoming, stimulating environment in which children between the ages of two and school age are able to flourish, driven by their natural impulse to learn and explore.
We will work closely with all the local schools, to ensure that the children's entry into school is as smooth as possible.

SESSIONS:

Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday mornings 9.30-1.30 pm.
St. Mary's pre-school will be open during the school term only. A list of term dates are available. We would appreciate punctuality when dropping off and collecting your children. This will help to minimise disruption and ensure your child's safety.

FEES:

The fees are at present £8.00 per session (£2 per hour). Fees are reviewed annually in the spring and come into effect the following September. The method of payment is half termly in advance. All sessions, including absence and holidays during term time must be paid for.
The fees cover the staff wages, hall rent and insurance. The purchase of equipment will be met by fundraising throughout the year. All eligible children will have access to the Nursery Education Grant. This is paid for 11 weeks per term; any extra weeks or hours must be paid for by the parents, at a cost of £8.00 per session or £2 per hour..
Somerset County Council can assist with fees if you are in receipt of certain benefits. Please talk to the supervisor.

WHAT ST. MARY'S CAN OFFER YOUR CHILD:

We offer the ideal environment for work within the Foundation Stage Curriculum, the stepping-stones to the Early Learning Goals as recommended by the Department for Education and Skills.

COMMUNICATION, LANGUAGE AND LITERACY:

Children are given the opportunity to talk and communicate in a wide range of situations. They will learn to enjoy and value both the written and spoken word through exploration, in a broad range of contexts.

MATHEMATICS:

Children learn to develop their understanding of numbers, measurement, pattern, shape and space through exploration.

KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING OF THE WORLD:

Children are given the opportunity to problem solve, make decisions, experiment, predict, plan and question in a variety of contexts.
Children will learn about themselves and their environment. They are encouraged to build on their knowledge of the world, different cultures, climates, languages etc.

PHYSICAL DEVELOPMENT:

Children practise and develop their fine and gross motor skills. They will learn about their bodies and how they work and how to keep healthy and stay safe.

CREATIVE DEVELOPMENT:

Children explore their creative thoughts; ideas and feelings through a variety of art, music, and imaginative role-play activities.

PERSONAL. SOCIAL AND EMOTIONAL DEVELOPMENT:

All children are treated as individuals. Children are taught how to work harmoniously alongside and with each other, and how to listen to each other. They will learn how to demonstrate good manners and show consideration for others. Children are supported in developing their independence and self-confidence.

WHAT WE HOPE YOUR CHILD WILL GAIN FROM ST. MARY'S PRE-SCHOOL:

All children should learn to work confidently, as independent individuals and also to work as part of a team in harmony with those around them. They will be exposed to a wide variety of exciting, stimulating, and appropriate experience, which will prepare them well for the learning curve ahead. We believe that children will leave St. Mary's fully equipped with the practical and social skills necessary for life.
