Key Stage 2 Visit to Dorchester

As part of our work about the Romans KS2 from both bases went to Dorchester for a Roman day.
We started with a walk around the town house. We saw a layout of a Roman villa; almost complete, original mosaics and the hypocast under floor/ wall heating system.
Then we went to Maiden Castle - this is really just a 'hill' now, but still shows the different levels and layers where barriers and stockades once were.
The top is very level with views for miles all around. We all climbed to the top and had a picnic lunch there. Luckily it stayed dry and not too cold, considering it was November!
Then we went to the county museum in Dorchester, where there was planned a range of things for us to do.
Including; mosaic rubbing, dressing up, sketching.........

........and other hands on activities for the children to try.
