8 September 2008

Dear Parents,

Welcome Back to School

I hope you all had a good Summer even though the weather was sometimes dismal.

New children

We welcome new children to our school and some new families.  I am sure you will make them all very welcome.  We have five children joining our foundation year on the Ilton Base.   So welcome to Joel A’Court, Ashley Bere, Kyan Hartnell, Joe Isaacs, Gabriel Plant and Daniella Roncescu.  On our Barrington Base we welcome Isabelle Applegate, Joshua Lee, Courtney Newis, Clare Ripley, Chloe Seers, Alexandra Stenner and Jake Watson.

New Staff

In addition we also have two new members of staff starting this term.  Last term I informed you that we appointed Sarah Wright to our administration team.  Sarah will be mainly based at Barrington and is also our new clerk to the governing body.  In addition Simon Jay has been appointed as a teaching assistant and will be mainly based at Ilton but will also be working at Barrington base at times.  A warm welcome to both of them.

New Building at Barrington

Yes!  It is finally going to arrive. Unfortunately all the services needed to support the operation of lifting the building into our site could not be co-ordinated for a day during the holiday.  However, much of the ground work is almost completed and the new Elliott is due to be lifted into place on 17th September.  The road will have to be closed for a time and I understand that all local residents have already received letters with the details of this closure. The safety of your children is always our priority and therefore the children at Barrington will be based at Ilton for this day. If you are the parents of a Barrington child/children please could we ask you to take your child/children to the Ilton Base for the usual time.  The end of the day will be 3.15p.m.

Topics

The children have returned enthusiastic about their new topics.  The Ilton classes are going to be finding out and learning about ‘Things that move’.  At the Barrington Base the children in Mrs. Downing’s class are going to be learning about ‘Volcanoes and Dinosaurs’ and Mrs. Tulloch’s and Mrs. Kelly’s class are going to be learning about ‘Famous People’

Year Four

We have already organised an exciting trip for the year four children on 17th September (same day as Elliott being delivered to Barrington ).  We aim to boost the children’s confidence, give them a wide range of experiences and enable the year fours of our school and Shepton Beauchamp to get to know each other really well. The children will be picked up from Ilton after registration and taken to Bridgwater and will coached to paddle a Bell Boat as a team.  The Bridgwater YMCA and the Sedgemoor and Mendip School Sports Alliance have two Bell Boats for children to use on the Bridgwater and Taunton Canal .  The trip will cost  £6.00.  Please could you sign the permission form below.  The children will wear school uniform and please ensure they have waterproof coats and sensible footwear.

Parking

This is always a contentious issue but please could you ensure that if you are parking near the Ilton Base that you leave the gate clear.  Sometimes the gate is obstructed by cars which is not thoughtful towards our neighbours and also would not allow any emergency vehicle access to the school.  If you are parking near the Barrington Base please ensure that you park away from the base and park thoughtfully regarding our neighbours.  Thank you.

School Dinners

At last we are able to offer school dinners and these will be starting on 15th September.

Paperwork

At this time of year we have to ensure that all our paperwork is up to date for the school year and this means that you have to sign lots of different forms.  I am sorry that there seems to be so many different forms covering a variety of areas.  These will be sent home shortly.
