Report to Parents 2002/03

Letter from the Chair of Governors
Dear Parents,

As I am sure most of you know, the Governing Body are required to give parents a written report each year containing certain specified details about the School. This is the Report.
Also, the Governing Body has to have a meeting with the parents at which they can discuss the report.
All schools, not just St.Mary and St.Peter's, find that in general hardly any parents feel a need to attend the Governor's Report to Parents evening. Indeed, so bad is the position That the Dfes are making proposals about possible alterations in the system.
We have decided that instead of having a special evening, the parents should be invited to come in the half hour before the next Governing Body meeting, when we should be glad to see anyone who wishes to come and to answer or discuss any points which you may have.
This period will be from 7 to 7.3Opm at the Ilton Base on Wednesday, 19th November.

With all best wishes,
Yours sincerely,
David Watson.

Message from the Headteacher
When compiling. the Annual Report to Parents it is always interesting to recap on what has gone on in school during the previous twelve months. There seem to be so many activities to report on and all of these add to the richness of life within the school

By far the most memorable events during the year 2002/2O03 were the OFSTED and Section 23 (Religious Education and Collective Worship) inspections. We were all delighted with both reports and feel very proud. Such excellence is only achieved after a great deal of hard work and dedication by all of the staff of the school We are very lucky at our school to have such a splendid team of committed people and I thank them all very sincerely. The governors, too, work very hard in their own time and give tremendous support and advice to staff. Thank you to them.
Alongside this, we also have wonderful children to teach and very supportive parents. Thank you all for your encouragement and good will over the school year.

We hope that you enjoy reading the report and look forward to seeing you on the Ilton base on November 19th, 2003, at 7.OOpm. The meeting will last for thirty minutes.

Yours sincerely,

P.A. Ferguson Headteacher Back to top
Introduction.
An Education Act passed in 1986 requires school governors to present a report on the school to parents for consideration at a meeting of parents registered at the school. This year the meeting will be on Wednesday 19th November, 2003, between 7.00 and 7.3Opm at the Ilton base.

If there are 20% of parents present, after discussion, a resolution may be proposed on matters arising from the report and, if passed by a simple majority, can be presented to the Governing body, the Head teacher or Local Education Authority (Somerset County Council).

The prospectus of the school contains useful information for parents.

St. Mary and St. Peter's CE First School operates on two bases, Barrington and Ilton. It is a co-educational day school for pupils aged 4+ to 9+. It is a voluntary controlled school which means that the Church of England is represented on the governing body. The number on roll at the end of the summer term, 2003, was 70. Back to top

Staffing
We welcomed two members of staff to school, Miss Beales and Miss Marshall who took up teaching positions on the Ilton base. Both settled into school life very well and made valuable contributions to school development over the twelve months.

We were very sad to say goodbye to Miss Beales in July 2003 when she left to take up a position at Queen's College in Taunton.

Miss Baruth, Mrs. Stevens and Mrs. Tyrrell also left their posts in July. Back to top
